Yi Hong Sim is a librarian and communications scholar specializing in the politics of work, Marxism, class theory, music, and the social analysis of time. Her work is guided by the problems and needs of contemporary society, especially those of education, political advocacy, and policy. Her lurking interests in sustainability stem from her volunteer work with World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms in Costa Rica and Ecuador in 2007-08.

Born in Singapore, Yi Hong grew up in the international expatriate community of Beijing, China, where she attended middle and high school at the International School of Beijing. She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and maintains basic proficiency in Spanish, German and French. By “second vocation,” Yi Hong is also a composer and writer. You can find her personal creative work at The Journals.

Yi Hong has been a resident of the United States since 2001. She currently lives in San Diego, California with her husband, composer-pianist Stephen Lewis.
