Music Library Association (MLA) Legislation Committee
The Legislation Committee of the Music Library Association keeps abreast of legislative news and issues that impact music libraries and their users. Committee members research and write guidelines for library practices and policies that are significantly complicated by legal ambiguity or complexity, write amicus briefs for lawsuits salient to music library concerns, and generally represent and advocate on behalf of the Music Library Association in public legislative discussions and events. For the benefit of the music library community’s ongoing self-education in legislative issues, the Legislation Committee also organizes legislation-related conference events for MLA Annual Meetings and maintains informative resources on the MLA’s Copyright Website. I was an active member of the MLA Legislation Committee from 2010 to 2012.
